Binchotan charcoal

Binchotan charcoal is a type of activated charcoal that has been traditionally made for over 300 years by charcoal makers in the Kishu province of Wakayama prefecture in Japan. Perfecting a technique that produced charcoal of extraordinary purity, they used the extra hard Ubame Oak that grew in the forested hills of Kishu, carefully and sustainably choosing branch clippings, stacking them inside large kilns built into the mountains, and then burning them at low temperatures over several weeks to control the oxygen flow. This centuries-old process turns wood into carbon, and at up to 98%, Binchotan charcoal has the highest content of carbon of any charcoal, making it one of the purest and highest quality charcoals available. Due to its extremely porous structure, Binchotan charcoal is renown for its ability to adsorb unwanted chemicals while releasing minerals that improve taste, as well as purify the air. It can be used over and over, and then returned to the earth where the benefits continue.

Prior to usage, boil the Binchotan charcoal sticks for 10 minutes. Allow them to cool completely, and it will be ready to be used. Re-boil the charcoal stick every two to three weeks to get rid of all the impurities and toxins it has absorbed.

Here are some beneficial ways you can use Binchotan charcoal in your home.

1.PURIFYING WATER

One quarter pound of Binchotan charcoal can purify up to one gallon of water, and will keep your water fresh and pure for three months. To use as water purifier, gently place charcoal in a glass pitcher or other container. Fill the pitcher with tap water and let it sit for several hours. Pour and refill as needed, leaving the charcoal in place.

2. PURIFYING INDOOR AIR

Place Binchotan charcoal sticks around the home to balance the charged ions in your environment, and to freshen and purify the air around you. The charcoal draws toxins from the air by attracting and absorbing positive ions, and in doing so can help to cleanse the air from harmful particles and provide relief from breathing difficulties, asthma and allergies. Simply place a few sticks in a bowl or basket and leave where unwanted smells accumulate. You can also place by your bedside for better breathing during your sleep.
