sasawashi

Sasawashi is a type of fabric made by blending two revered Japanese materials - yarns of Washi paper and the leaves of the Kumazasa plant - creating a new super-fiber that retains the best properties of both.

Washi paper is absorbent of both oil and water and it also controls heat, humidity, and protects from UV rays. It is a strong, durable, versatile material which is why it is used in the Shoji sliding doors in Japan. Kumazasa is a plant that grows particularly in the cool highlands of Japan. It thrives through harsh winter weather and has antibacterial properties. Together, these two ingredients make for a gentle yet hard-working fabric. Used in beauty products, it contains natural hydrating and antibacterial properties.
