The calm Bedroom
Being the space that you rest your mind and body after a busy day, the bedroom should feel like a quiet refuge, the only place where you can escape the noise and distraction of everyday. The bedroom is probably the most important space in your home to use the “less is more” approach. Here are some tips on how to create your Japanese inspired calm bedroom.
KEEP IT MINIMAL
Be mindful of what you place in your bedroom. Keep only the essential furniture you need such as a bed, nightstands, and lamps, creating more room to move around and put all the clutter away. Everything that does not belong in the bedroom should be stored somewhere else. Do not over accessorize your bedroom with too much decoration pieces. It is OK to have some blank walls with no art hanging on them and a dresser cabinet with just a plant on top of it. I also like to keep the bed simple with no decorative pillows. Although it looks nice, your bed will always be ready for you to sleep on and it will save you time when you make your bed everyday.
SOOTHING COLOR SCHEME
Pick a calming color scheme for your bedroom. Start with neutral colors like white, beige, taupe, grey and then if desired you can bring in some light blues and greens as accent colors. Neutral color palettes are calming for your eyes and mind and before you go to bed it is good to have the least stimulation so you can get a good nights sleep.
PUT AWAY ALL ELECTRONICS
I know that this is a hard one since we live in a modern world of pretty much digital everything and we are so used to having our phones with us even when we go to bed, but putting away all electronics creates a calmer environment which is even more important when we go to bed. If possible, avoid having a TV in the bedroom and make sure you can’t see any cables hanging from the walls. Charge your phone for the night somewhere else and invest on a pretty analog alarm clock by your bedside.
BE MINDFUL WHERE TO PLACE MIRRORS
According to Feng Shui, mirrors are thought to bounce energy around the bedroom, which can result in restlessness and disturbed sleep. If you have to place a mirror in the bedroom try to avoid placing on the wall opposite your bed or hanging above your bed.
BRING NATURE INTO YOUR BEDROOM
It can be an indoor plant, flowers and branches in a vase, or even some wood elements, bringing some nature in your bedroom will help you feel the sense of tranquility and you will unwind better. There are some indoor plants such as spider plant, dracaenas, or devil’s ivy that are considered air purifiers for removing common toxins so not only they will look great and bring you calm but you will also breathe better!
I hope these tips help you create a calm bedroom in which you will look forward to resting every night!
